Microsoft can get ready to take a deep breath. Windows 7 is just about to climb above Windows XP market share.
Thanks to the corporate market that heavily relies on Windows XP systems even more than 10 years after the operating system’s launch, Windows 7 has surpassed XP market share on a single day for the first time. According to StatCounter, Windows 7 posted 40.14% share on August 28 versus 39.2% for Windows XP. During weekdays, XP still has a 4 point lead, which explains that the old operating system has still the edge in the monthly average.
StatCounter estimated XP share at 42.58% in August, followed by Windows 7 with 37.68%. At the current pace, Windows 7 will need another 2 months to pass XP permanently. Net Applications believes that is a greater distance between the two operating systems and said that XP had about 52.46% of the market and Windows 7 just 30.60%.
According to StatCounter, Windows 7 became the leading OS in the U.S. back in April and is now estimated to hold about 38.35% of the OS market, followed by XP with 26.16%, Vista with 16.17%, MacOS X with 14.79% and iOS with 1.91%.
