Microsoft pushes update to deactivate counterfeit Win7 copies

From:
Quote

Microsoft has updated Windows Activation Technologies for Windows 7 and released an update for Windows 7 which silently examines your operating system for unauthorized attempts at activating Windows 7.

This update for Windows Activation Technologies  detects validation errors and activation exploits, any tampering attempts made to important Windows 7 system files related to Windows Activation.

Explains KB2534510:

Validation errors and activation exploits try to bypass the Windows activation process and are sometimes included with counterfeit copies of Windows.

If a validation error or activation exploit is detected, you will be directed to more information on the Internet for resolution of the activation exploit or the validation error. When validation errors or activation exploits are removed, you may be asked to use a valid product key to activate the copy of Windows 7 that is running on your computer.

If you decide not to resolve the validation error or the activation exploit at that time, you will be periodically notified that the copy of Windows 7 that is running on your computer is not genuine.

If the update does not detect any validation errors, activation exploits, or tampered files, it will exit silently.

But if it finds that the Windows 7 copy has been illegally activated, it will try to restore the tampered files – which may require a restart, and may even  deactivate the counterfeit copy.

Excellent information....Thanks

As precautionary measure those of you using some type of activator, now might be the time to check your windows update settings and make certain they are set to

or perhaps consider turning them off all together.  Don't forget when KB2534510 appears in updates you can always right click on it and then clcik on Hide
